Betty J. Lindsey Scales was born to the parentage of the late Mr. L.M. Lindsey and Evelyn Collum Lindsey on April 14,, 1934 in Gadsden, Alabama. She was an only child.
She confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Macedonia Baptist Church in Gadsden but followed her husband in the ministry to several churches. She attended Carver high School in Gadsden.
She was active in many religious and civic organizations. At the time of her death, she was an active member of the Anniston Area Minister Wives, Order of Easter Star, Snow Creek Baptist Association and SCLC.
She was married the tothe late Rev. Dr. A.A. Scales and to this union eleven children were born.
This great woman of God answered the call on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Regional Medical Center. She was preced in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. A.A. Scales and two children, Sharon Lanette and Alphonso Jr. and her mother Evelyn Collum and her father L.M. Lindsey.
Those left to cherish her memories are: two sons, Ricky (Mary) Lindsey, Kernersville, NC and Samuel Tyrone (Karen) Lindsey, Anniston, AL;seven daughters, Alvolia Lindsey (Phillip) West, Conyers, GA, Yvonne Scales, Pamela Scales Sanders, all of Anniston, Karen Scales Freeman of San Francisco, CA, Tanya Renae Scales Sanders , Sabrina Scales of Anniston and Cassondra Regina Scales-Smith of Boynton Beach, FL; 15 grandchildren; 14 great, grandchildren; 3 god-children, Augatha Jairrels, Nikki Sterling and Ann Askew; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
