Bobby Murphy Obituary

As A Son:

He was born in Anniston, Alabama on June 8, 1935 to the Mozell Truss.

As A Husband:

He was married to Shirley Jean Murphy.

As A Father:

He was blessed with four children, Marcus Reed, Alfreda Logan, Gwenevere Reed and Brent Allen.

As A Family Man:

He helped in raising his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His love for each of them was immeasurable.

As A Christian Worker:

Rev. Bobby L. Murphy was truly a living testimony of a Christian rearing. At the early age of 6, he joined the Mount Calvary Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. M.X. Battle. In 1952, Rev. Murphy joined the U.S. Navy. After returning from his duty, he and Shirley J. Murphy rekindled a relationship and married in 1962. Rev. Murphy joined the Seventeenth Street Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Nimrod Q. Reynolds, and was a faithful member for over 50 years. He became a deacon in 1983 and served in that capacity until 1997, when he was lead to preach God’s Word. Rev. Murphy preached his initial sermon on May 4, 1997 at the Seventeenth Street Missionary Baptist Church.

Rev. Bobby L. Murphy became the pastor of Westview Missionary Baptist Church on August 10, 1997. Under his leadership, twenty-one members were added to the flock. Rev. Murphy became the pastor of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church February of 2006. Under his leadership, several deacons were added and recently, two ministers were licensed. Rev. Murphy continued to enhance the vision of the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church until his health declined.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his sons, Marcus (Flora) Reed and Brent Allen; his daughters, Alfreda Logan and Gwenevere Reed, all of Anniston, Alabama; his brother, William (JoAnn)Truss of Miami, Florida; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; seven great, great-grandchildren; a god-sister, Macette (Mack) Winston; a brother-in-law, Joseph M. Harris; and a host of loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Shirley J. Murphy; his mother, Mozelle Truss; his sister, Beverly Ann Jones; and his grandparents, Rev. & Mrs. J.W. Elston.
