Mrs. Emma Lois Bowie Jones was born on April 25, 1928 in Anniston, Alabama to the parentage of Benjamin and Amanda Bowie. Emma accepted Christ at an early age and joined Grace Lutheran Church.

Emma received her formal education in Anniston City Schools and graduated from Cobb High School in 1945. She continued her education at Spelman College, Alabama A&M University and graduated from Alabama State University in 1950. Emma was an early childhood education teacher and began her teaching career in rural segregated schools in Clay County, Alabama. As a master teacher, one of her passions was teaching young children to read. Emma taught many years in Anniston City Schools and ultimately retired from teaching in Calhoun County Schools.Emma was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Soroity, Inc., Cobb High School Alumin Association and Alabama State Alumni Association.

Emma married Frederick L. Jones and to this union one son, Marvin "Larry" Jones was born.

Emma went home to be with the Lord peacefully, in her sleep, on April 29, 2014. She will be missed for her "wit and wisdom" by her family, friends, and former students.she will be missed especially by her best friends: Mrs. Mozelle Merritt and Mrs. Viola Byrd.

Emma was preceded in death by: her husband, Frederick Jones; her parents; a sister, Effie Mae Bowie; and her brothers, Edwin Bowie and Samuel Bowie.

Emma is survived by: her loving and devoted son, Marvin; her brother, Benjamin Bowie, for whom she was a caregiver until her passing. She also leaves a legacy of cousins, nieces and nephews; especially her niece, Benita Bowie Bateman, who was like a daughter to her.
