Obituary

Mrs. Ethel Prince Porter was born October 6, 1918 in Selma, Alabama to the late John D. Prince and Fannie Attamore Prince. She was the youngest of fie children.

At an early age, she joined Tabernacle Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Jemison. After she moved Anniston, she united with the Friendship Baptist Church under Rev. R.J. White and served faithfully. She enjoyed singing in the choir and in 1948 she was instrumental in re-organizing the Young Matron's Circle.

Miss Ethel Prince was united in holy matrimony to Herman Porter on September 28, 1939 and to this union six children were born: four daughters and two sons. She worked for many years as a nurse's assistant at Anniston Memorial Hospital(RMC), which lead to private duty nursing. Her love for flowers and a floral arrangement course led her to fulfill a longtine dream to open her own floralbusiness - Porter's Florist.

She departed this life on Friday, April 11, 2014 . She was preceded in death by: her husband of 43 years; her parents; two daughters, Shirley Ann Wilson and Delores Jean Thomas; her sisters, Hattie Whitehead, Bertha K. Rosser and Arametta Howard; and her brothers, John Prince,Jr.and George Prince. She is survived by: two daughters, Arametta Porter and Judy P. Young, both of Anniston, Alabama; two sons, Herman (Aljonia) Porter of Crestview, Florida and Yorick (Beverly) Porter of Anniston, Alabama; fourteen grandchildren, Nedra (Patrick) Payton of Mobile, Alabama, Shawneese Baysmore of Crestview, Florida, Valery (Wilbert) Harrison of Gadsden, Alabama,  Yolanda Porter of Crestview, Florida, Roderick Thomas of Gadsden, Alabama, Bernard (Nicole) Thomas of Mobile, Alabama, Angela Rohns of O'Fallon, Illinois, Norleshia (Patrick) Robinson of O'Fallon, Illinois, Andre Young of Acworth, Georgia, Andrew Wilson of O'Fallon, Illinois, Sherman Hall of Crestview, Florida, Jamelle Young of Montgomery, Alabama, LaShea Young of Oxford, Alabama and LaVonte (Keiuna) Young of Oxford, Alabama; fifteen great-grandchildren; a special niece, Carolyn Coleman of Bessemer, Alabama; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
