Evelyn Thomas Jones was born on June 26, 1953 to the parentage of the late Jimmie Lee Thomas and Essie Boyd Thomas in Anniston, Alabama. Evelyn was educated in Anniston Public Schools and graduated with the Cobb High School class of 1971.

She accepted Christ at a very early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama, where she faithfully served in the choir, in the Vernice Sanders Circle and in the Nurses guild until her health failed. Evelyn was united in holy matrimony to James E. Jones, who preceded her in death. Her father, Jimmie L. Thomas and her sister, JoAnn Carlisle also preceded her in death.

Evelyn lost her 13 year battle with cancer in the early morning hours of June 29, 2013. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of: her children. Vicki L. (Michael) and Jammeus (Ryan), both of Anniston, Alabama, Aquita (Greg) of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee and TeDarell (Krystle) of Marietta, Georgia; her stepchildren, Timothy (Starlitha), Pierre, Tiffany (Phillip), Felicia (Fernando), all of Anniston, Alabama; her mother, Essie B. Thomas of Anniston, Alabama; her sisters, Essie L. Hughley, Dolly M. Gibbons, Joyce T. Oden, all of Anniston, Alabama; her brothers, Willie L. (Connie) Thomas, Jimmy T. (Linda) Thomas and Benjamin B. Thomas, all of Anniston, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Carlos (C.J.), Jammeus, Michael (M.J.), Te'Shawn, Taleah, Te'Quon and Jordyn; her special sister-in-law and caregiver, Felecia Parker.
