John Henry Acklin, Jr. was born 1 of 4 children to the late John H. Sr. and Bettie Acklin on November 16, 1914 in Huntsville, Alabama.

At an  early age he was admonished by the teaching and training of Christian parents along with influential training at the Methodist Church where he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior. After moving to Anniston, Alabama, he joined Murray Temple CME Church. John remained a faithful and active member until his health begin to decline.

In 1942, John joined the US Army, where he served in battles and campaigns at New Guniea and Northern Solomon. During these battles he received the ATO Medal, APTO Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. In January 1946, John received an honorable discharge because of injuries received during the battles and campaigns.

Following John's military career, he began working at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville and was later transferred to the Anniston Army Depot.

Jonn married Iona Finney and to this union three daughters were born and two children adopted.John Jr. was a spiritual filled man of God and always shared with his children daily the importance of trusting in God and getting an education.

Upon completing 52 years, 8 months and 10 days of work, at the age of 80, John decided it was time to retinre. However, on Wednesday morning, April 3, 2013, John was called home to begin working for his Master again.

Acklin, Long Beach, CA; 5 grandchildren, Monica Johnson, Anniston, AL, Preston F. Golston (Sandy), Scottsdale, AZ, Eric D. Golston, Lakewood, CA, Cedric Collins, Atlanta, Ga and Jamarco Stewart, Anniston, AL: 2 great grandsons; and a host of relatives, neighbors and friends.
