Sis. Joyce Elston was born on March 30, 1940, in Anniston, Alabama, to the parentage of Mr. Robert Ingram and Mrs. Mary Glover Ingram.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Her formal education was at  Cobb Avenue High School in Anniston, Alabama. After graduation, her big, loving, compassionate heart led her to a career as a CNA at Wessex House, Regional Medical Center and DHR.

Joyce was joined in holy matrimony to Walter Elston, Sr. This union was blessed with five beautiful children. Her love for her husband, children, family and strangers was a true testament of her love for Jesus Christ.

Joyce was preceded in death by: her husband, Walter Elston, Sr.; her grandson, Maurice Smith, Sr.; her parents, Robert Ingram and Mary Glover Ingram; her sisters, Mary Louis Barnes, Barbara Hodge, and Dorothy Ingram.

On Saturday, February 7, 2026, Joyce peacefully answered the Master's call. God in His special way, at His perfect time, picked from our midst this sweet soul and added her to His heavenly garden where her spirit will bloom forever.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Edwin Elston, Jackquelyn Elston, Walter N. Elston, Jr. and Samantha Elston, all of Anniston, Alabama, and Patrick (Toni) Elston of Atlanta, Georgia; one stepson, Gerald (Yvonne) Phillips of Talladega, Alabama; one godson, Edward E. Ingram; her sibling, Betty A. Newell of Richmond, Virginia; eleven wonderful grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three close friends, Gwen Lane, Faye Holcombe, and Louise Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
