AS A DAUGHTER: She was born in Anniston, Alabama to the late Charlie Ernest Reed, Jr. and Trejetta J. Reed on November 5, 1935.
AS A WIFE: She was blessed with four children: one son , Lovell,who preceded her in death, Marcus Reed, Alfreda Logan and Gwenevere Reed.
AS A FAMILY WOMAN: She helped in raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love for each of them was immeasurable.
AS A CHRISTIAN WORKER: Early in life she united with the Pilgrim Baptist Church. Later she joined the Seventeenth Street Missionary Baptist Church. In her later years, she worked along side her husband as the first lady of Westview Baptist Churh and Springhill Baptist Church, where she remained until her death.She served as a faithful director of the Snow Creek district and as advisor of the Jr. and Sr. Red Circles of Seventeenth Street Missionary Baptist Church.
Shirley Jean Murphy departed this earthly life on May 19, 2015 at the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: her husband, Rev. Bobby Murphy; her son, Marcus (Flora) Reed; her daughters, Alfreda Logan and Gwenevere Reed; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three great, great-grandchildren; a godsister, Macette (Mack) Winston; a sister-in-law, Beverly Jones; a brother-in-law, William (JoAnn) Truss; and a host of other relatives and friends.
