Thelma Leonard Freeman was born on March 19, 1929, in Hissop, Alabama to the parentage of the late Tom Leonard and Mary Frances Glasper Leonard. She attended Cottage Grove School and later moved to Anniston, Aklabama, where she lived for over 60 years. She retired from Sandra's Sportswear in Weaver, Alabama.

Thelma accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the New Home Baptist Church in Cossa County, Alabama. Later, she became a member of Greater Thankful Baptist Church where she served until her health failed. Thelma loved fashion. She was known for her stylish hats and attire which, always matched from head to toe. She also had a passion for music and singing.

Thelma was united in holy matrimony to the late Harvey Freeman, Jr. on June 8, 1952.

She was preceded in death by: siblings, Lola Mae Martin, Lepoleon Leonard, Thomas J. Leonard, Evelyn Ellington, Mary Mahala Meadows, Jesse Lewis Leonard and Thurman Leonard. She departed this life on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:17 PM at the Jacksonville Health & Rehab.

She is survived by: two daughters, Bobbie (David) Walton and Rosie Nell (Nelson) coleman and a stepdaughter, Jeraldine Caver; a sister, Ethel Lois Porter; three sisters-in-law, Beatrice mcMath, Elizabeth Martin and Roberta Brager; two brothers-in-law, Johnny Meadows and Calvin (Tonya) Freeman; six grandchildren, Antoinette (Larry) Frails, Jacqueline Love, Constance Hill, Anthony (Jessica) Walton, Courtney Coleman and Surice (Demorrow) Carpenter; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
