Mattie Jean Rushton Whiteside was born August 6, 1934 in Anniston, Alabama to the parentage of Mr. Will and Mrs. Willie Mae Ruston. She attended Cobb High School. She worked at KCA Food Services at Ft. McClellan for several years before she retired.
Sister Whiteside was a devout Christian and a faithful member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Ellis Whiteside, and to this union five children were born: Brenda, Phyllis, Ellis, Jr., Cassandra and Kenneth.
She departed this life on July 10, 2022 at her residence. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Ellis Whiteside her daughter, Phyllis Garrett; and her parents, Mr. Will and Mrs. Willie Mae Rushton.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her daughters, Brenda Johnson and Cassandra Whiteside; her sons, Ellis Whiteside, Jr. and Kenneth Whiteside; four grandchildren, Demetrius Young, Maiako (Bill) Porter, Marlin Whiteside and Keisha (Dave) Lawson; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
