Roy Christopher Stephens was born on July 19, 1958 to the parentage of Roy Stephens and Ada Bell Stephens of Anniston, Alabama. He was a 1976 graduate of Anniston High School. He loved and studied music at a young age under the guidance of Mrs. Former of Anniston, Alabama.
He proudly served his country for four years in the United States Army. He received an Associate’s Degree in music from Gadsden State College, and also attended the University of Alabama School of Music in Tuscaloosa.
He was gainfully employed and worked as an Emergency Operations Specialist at EMA of Jacksonville and the Anniston Army Depot for over twenty-five years. His love of music continued as he served as pianist/keyboard player for several Praise and Worship teams in Anniston, Alabama, Ft. McClellan, Alabama, Clearwater, Florida and Safety Harbor, Florida. Roy’s family church was at First United Presbyterian Church, where he served on the music ministry for several years. Later, he united with Living By Faith Ministry and received salvation under the leadership of Apostle Bob & Jackie McClain and was active in the music ministry.
The union of Roy and Joan Stephens brought into this world a precious daughter, Christiana Marie Stephens. He also had a son, Eric Hartwell. His love of his children was everlasting and unfailing. Through Eric, he became the proud grandfather of Little Ellie Hartell, whom he also cherished.
On Monday, March 1, 2021, Roy answered the Master’s call. He was preceded in death by: his father, Roy Stephens, Sr; his mother, Ada Bell Stephens; and one brother, Mark Anthony Stephens.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: two children, Christiana Marie Stephens of Anniston, Alabama and Eric Hartell of Clearwater, Florida; one granddaughter, Little Ellie Hartell of Clearwater, Florida; one brother, Michael (Sherla) Stephens of riverside, California; two sisters, Michelle Marie Stephens Elston of Jacksonville, Alabama and Marilyn Stephens Stansil of Anniston, Alabama; nieces, Andrela (Daron) Stephens Bothwell and Brittney Stansil; nephews, Surran Michael Stephens, Roy Lamar (Sandtrell) Stephens, Nathaniel Elston, Matthew (Anna) Elston, Stephen Stansil, and Stedman Stansil; and a host of cousins, other family members and friends.
