Roy’s family church was at First United Presbyterian Church, where he served on the music ministry for several years. Later, he united with Living By Faith Ministry and received salvation under the leadership of Apostle Bob & Jackie McClain and was active in the music ministry.

The union of Roy and Joan Stephens brought into this world a precious daughter, Christiana Marie Stephens. He also had a son, Eric Hartwell. His love of his children was everlasting and unfailing. Through Eric, he became the proud grandfather of Little Ellie Hartell, whom he also cherished.
